About Bennett Farm

Site History

Bennett Farm has a rich agricultural and family history that spans more than 150 years. Below is a timeline highlighting key milestones in the site's ownership and legacy:

  • Around 1855: John Lowry purchased the original farm property.
  • 1905: Upon Lowry’s death, the farm had grown to 300 acres.
  • 1908: Marion Crane acquires the farm.
  • 1925: The farm is willed to Lettie Decker and her daughter Naomi.
  • Naomi Decker marries Willard Bennett, and the property becomes known as “Bennett Farm.”
  • 1969: Naomi passes away.
  • 1970: Willard marries Marjorie S. Harris.
  • 1991: After Willard’s death, Marjorie Bennett inherits 32 acres of the original farm.
  • 2023: Marjorie Bennett passes away at the age of 97.
  • 2024: The City of Powell purchases Bennett Farm to preserve its legacy and plan for its future as a community park.
