Project Overview
Recent community engagement and planning efforts, such as the Lee Road Action Plan, Forward Together Vision Plan, Community Attitudes Survey, and other communitywide efforts, like the Shaker Heights City Schools Facilities Plan, have highlighted opportunities to rethink recreational programming within the community and plan for future needs.
This Recreation Strategic Plan will focus on key sites that are vital to addressing Shaker Heights' recreation needs and goals: Stephanie Tubbs Jones (STJ) Community Building Quadrant, Chelton Park, Thornton Park, and the Middle School.
Community needs have changed significantly since the schools, parks, and recreation buildings were initially built. Responding to current recreational trends and investing in the community's existing and future needs are essential in building valuable spaces for residents and increasing their social and physical well-being.
